We are honored to have one of the largest projects in our company’s 100-year history, a new 3,000-plus-ft. microtunnel running below Tampa Bay that replaces a sewer main handling nearly one-third of all City of Tampa wastewater.

The mayor of Tampa, Jane Castor, has officially designated October 25, 2023, as “Kimmins Contracting Day” in recognition of the civil construction firm’s 100th year in business since its founding, in 1923.

Giving back is one of the pillars on which Kimmins was founded 100 years ago. To shed light on this topic, we talked with the president of Kimmins, Joe Williams, to learn more on how “Community” is a core value that Kimmins lives every day.

In our previous blog post, we began our year-long anniversary series by exploring the "Safety First" culture that defines Kimmins Contracting. We delved into the mandatory safety classes for new hires and the re-certification classes for our crew members.

The large diameter microtunnel machine, which installed a 72-inch-diameter steel casing pipe a total distance of 3,156 linear feet, completed its final penetration into the receiving pit at Cotanchobee Fort Brooke Park, beside Amalie Arena, on April 21.
